About
Walk a world.
Then build your own.
Holodeck is an early source prototype: a local workspace where you and your coding agent build 3D worlds from Kiln assets, then explore them on foot in the browser. The scenes on this site are exports of its bundled example worlds.
Walk a scene
Open a world from the shelf.
Each scene opens on an overlook. Choose Enter world to start exploring. The scene renders live with WebGPU where the browser supports it, and falls back to WebGL2 otherwise.
Walking
- WASD to move, Shift to run and Space to jump
- T or 1–9 for an emote, V to change the view
- E to interact with what the reticle finds
- G for the free camera, Esc to release the mouse and return to the overlook
Free camera
- WASD to fly, with Q and E for down and up
- Shift to move faster, G to return
- Right-drag to look without capturing the mouse
- The toolbar shows or hides the cove, returns to the arrival and pauses activity
Touchscreen
- A thumb on the left of the scene becomes a stick that walks or flies
- Any other finger drags to look
- On the overlook, one finger orbits and two fingers pinch to zoom
- Interact, Jump and Emote buttons appear only when they apply
What stays local
- Activity runs only in your browser session
- Nothing you do in a scene is saved into it
- No agent is connected on this site
Build
Make your own world.
Holodeck runs on your machine with Git, Node.js and npm. Launch creates a cove beside the checkout when that folder is new, starts the local server and opens the world.
git clone https://github.com/instruktlabs/holodeck.gitcd holodecknpm ciInstalls dependencies once. Launch does not download them.node bin/holodeck.mjs launchThen choose Connect → Codex, Cursor or Claude Code, and describe what to build.
- Your agent's proposals appear as ghosts in the world. Apply saves a new revision; Discard drops it.
- The bible holds the rules of the place and the mood board holds its references, for you and your agent.
- Enter world walks the result; Esc brings back the workspace.
The full guide is Getting started in the repository. Code is MIT. The bundled example worlds are CC0, and so are the scenes on this site. Your own worlds are not automatically CC0. The models come from Kiln.
